When Heather was born, we were filled with joy as every loving parent is.
So today, as we work on what and how to feel it is that joy we wish to continue to share with you. You, who are her family and friends. You, those she loved and those who loved her. You, who may not have known her well, but care now to know more. Our thoughts are to focus on the joy she brought to us all.
Perhaps you might wish to consider how much she enjoyed performing and with that the importance of and appreciation for creative expression.
She was courageous in following her dreams. She chose to move out of her comfort zone and push herself. Perhaps we all need to get out of our comfort zones more often.
She made a point to encourage others. Today we could encourage someone.
Hers was a life of beauty and grace in many ways. Look for beauty and grace today and when you find it smile a while.
Today is the anniversary of her birth, Heather’s birthday. As we work on what and how to feel, think of these things and remember her with as much joy as you can.
Stay in touch!
Grace and Peace,
Doug and Carol

From Doug & Carol
The second anniversary of our loss together will soon be upon us. I would like to say July 16 is just another day in which Heather’s
living spirit in my heart and the hope from my faith in eternity gets me by. But no, I am human and it will mark memories of despair, the world without beauty, and the hell of the pit of senselessness.
What will help is what has helped all along. It is those of us who now make up the community influenced by Heather’s life for the good and who now do good remembering her. Carol, Amy, Jordan, and I are continuously touched by personal e-mails we receive reflecting extraordinary and thoughtful self-examination of the life and love she shared. We are touched by the honest and heartfelt reflection.
We are happy to hear of new life and love, and of lives progressing in career, travel, and education. We are just uplifted when we
connect, laugh, and share.
So, on Monday we continue to seek good things in her honor and memory, and will work up to it trying to stay healthy in spirit. We wish the same for you.
Always glad to read your messages here or personal e-mail. Better to hear from you if you want to call. Best yet is when we SEE you.
P.S. Although we must mark the day of her death, let’s look forward
to celebrating the anniversary of her birth August 20.

Here is some exciting news from Carol and Doug:
As many of you know, Heather’s life and legacy is being honoredbformally in many ways. The scholarship in her name at SouthwesternbUniversity is one BIG way. (Most importantly and informally is thatbyou remember her and keep her personality, her talents, her love, and
her virtues living in your heart……Then share her in your own way withbsomeone else.)
On Friday evening, February 23, following the opening night of the musical Company on the campus of Southwestern University, we will bebpresenting her scholarship to a wonderful student actress Casey Marie McAuliffe! The SU theatre faculty selected Casey knowing she reflects many of Heather’s attributes on and off stage. COME JOIN US! Let’s enjoy the show, meet Casey, connect, hangout, party and whatever.
Please pass this message on to friends, parents, and anyone who might like to join in. Here is the link for the show, tickets, etc.
(BTW the panel picture to the left on that web page frequently rotates –refresh the page several times- with Heather as Sally Boles in Cabaret. Doug wants to know who has his hand on her thigh!)
Big thanks to Rick Roemer, department chair and Dean Paul Gaffney!
All the best from Heather’s Mom and Dad,
carol and doug.

Here is the main story from one of them:
“Sandstone Productions is proud to announce the new addition to their season: a seperate performance for the Heather McGaughey Children’s Theatre (HMCT).”
“Last summer the HMCT received such a huge response from tehir first show - the children performed in Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - that this summer they will have their own production. “Just So” will be presented four times in the summer of 2007. Each session will culiminate in two performances, June 26th and June 27th, and again at the end of the second session on July 24th and 25th.”

Doug mentioned this to some of us a while back that Nashville singer/songwriter (by way of Farmington) Lynette Wright had dedicated a song to Heather. The song is “In The Room,” which can be heard on Lynette’s MySpace page here.
Here are the lyrics:
IN THE ROOM
WELL YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL MELODY
I CAN STILL HEAR IN MY EAR
OH AND YOU HAD THE SMILE
THAT COULD GO ON BEYOND THE YEARS
AND ALL THE LOVE YOU GAVE
SOMEHOW SAVES ME
I WILL NEVER FORGET WHEN YOU CAME IN MY LIFE
THE BOND THAT WE SHARED FOR THE REST OF MY TIME
AND THOUGH WE KNOW IT ALL ENDED TOO SOON
I CAN STILL FEEL YOU IN THE ROOM
NOW MEMORIES OF YOU
ARE LOCKED DEEP INSIDE OF MY HEART
ALTHOUGH HEAVEN NOW HOLDS YOU
I KNOW THAT WE’RE NEVER APART
YOU’RE REALLY NOT AWAY
’CAUSE IN MY HEART YOU’LL STAY
’CAUSE LOVE LIKE THIS NEVER DIES
IT’S BURNED IN MY HEART AND MIND
Lynette Wright for Lynette Wright Songs BMI
The song is a lovely tribute and I know we’re all grateful to Lynette for doing it.

A play is opening
In your memory today,
Your name in Hollywood,
Just not in the usual way.
A song recorded in Nashville
Written especially for you,
Your inspirational spirit
Continues to shine through.
That poem was written by the McGaugheys and shared with everyone last year at this time.
Happy Birthday Heather

*UPDATE* - We forgot to give the time of the service, which is 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 16th. Please feel free to bring a change of clothes if needed for relaxing later at the house. The garden has really grown due to all the sun, but it is also definitely hot outside during a Texas summer.
Dear Friends and Family,
Next Sunday, July 16th is the anniversary of the day that we lost Heather. We would like to invite those who wish to come to a service of Hope and Healing in the Chapel of:
Friendswood United Methodist Church
204 W Edgewood
Friendswood, Texas 77546-3910.
Afterward, we will stop by Forest Park and lay some flowers. We will have an open house that afternoon at our home in League City. We hope you can come by and see how Heather’s garden has grown and to spend time with us.
Here is an email address you can use to contact us:
We know that distance is a factor for many of you, so please know we are thinking of those who loved Heather and invite you to light a Heather candle, admire some lavender flowers, and think of Heather. Perhaps this is a day to be with those you are close to and share memories.
We are currently in Farmington , NM where we have met the children in the Heather McGaughey Children’s theater and heard them sing songs and dance in rehearsal. We will see the performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat this evening. The theater has made amazing progress and an impact in this community. Her legacy in this area is strong. Kathryn is directing the children’s theater this year as well as being the featured performer, the Narrator, in the play.
You can Google “Heather McGaughey Children’s Theater” and see for yourself. We will be sharing about our experience here with all who are able to come next week as well.
Grace and Peace,
Carol and Doug

I’ve added some photos that I took at Heather’s Garden Party to a new page that I hope will act as a Virtual Tour of sorts. If you don’t get a chance to see the garden in person I hope this provides some idea of what it looks like. I’d also mention that this is what it looks like before most of the flowers and shrubs selected by friends and family were planted. Enjoy!

I’ve changed up the site a little bit in honor of the grand debut of Heather’s Garden (if you didn’t get an email about it, drop me a line). There are many, many bugs. In fact, I’m guessing that there are more bugs on the site than in the actual garden. If you see any problems or have any ideas, please leave a comment.
